Hi Rene thank you for your help of your videos or any future videos you will send me. For as long as I can remember I have always been bullied or picked on at work usually by someone in authority such as a manager or supervisor and wondered if I could choose this as a subject to work on with people as I know this goes on in the workplace.

    Rene,

I would like to be a motivational speaker, because there is experiences I would love to share to the world. Especially in junior and senior high schools. I already know how to speak to audiences. I am retired military, some of the experiences I learned in the military. But its something that I believe schools across the world need to here. I really need to know how to get started. Like, How do I go about setting up appointments?, do I need an agent? how do I get one? stuff like that. Patiently waiting for your advice.

    • Rene Godefroy

Gary, you need to start in your local town first then expand your reach to your entire state and the neighboring states.

Make a list of all the schools and the student activity directors in those schools. However, you need to have the right positioning.

Make sure you know what specific problem you can solve in the high schools. More importantly, make it’s a problem that they willing to pay for the solution.

Then design your website and marketing with a focus on this problem. It’s not enough to share your experiences with the world. There must be a way to translate those life experiences into a solution to their problems.

They don’t care about you or me. People care about themselves. Of course, you have to evoke the right emotions and states to create a transformation. You do so through your stories.

If you are really serious about this, you should consider coaching. Reply to one of the emails you get from us if you are definitely serious about speaking for a living. If there are any slots open, we will consider enrolling you.

Be very careful about how you arrange your words to create a phrase. In constructing your sentences, you are also constructing your dream. So, you don’t have financial problems. You are waiting for your money. It’s coming to you. How? It’s not your business.

My first advice for you is to imagine exactly what you want. Write it on paper. Keep repeating it to yourself day and night patiently. That’s how you manifest your desires. I know that sounds like the law of attraction nonsense. However, it’s way beyond that. As I’m typing this, I’m literally speaking into existence that which I want. I have so many stories to back up that statement.

Rene I’m sitting here searching for a job and it just hit me like a ton of bricks that this is what I was meant to do. I have suffered from severe depression and generalized anxiety disorder for the past 2 years. Feeling worthless, not feeling like I was good at anything, and not the outgoing person I used to be. I’m also going through a divorce. But despite that, I still try to encourage others and give advice. I still manage to make people laugh even at my lowest. It was only now that I realized what I am good at……talking and making others laugh and smile. It’s not something I ever dreamed I could make a living from. I’ve been doing it for years for free. It’s just who I am. I love to talk to new parents, people who are struggling with depression and what has worked for me, and just make people smile. If this is what God is showing me then I happily receive it. Thank you Father for sending Rene to me!

      Hi Mia,

What hits you like a ton of bricks is God speaking to you directly. That’s right, your authentic self is beyond a divorce and hard times. It’s the warrior within that can overcome anything.

That’s why you can keep making others laugh and encourage them. You are indeed POWERFUL!

It’s time we truly understand that we are not just a body. We are human beings! We are more than our five senses. Keep pressing on MIa.

Rene, I had always thought that the positive power of speech was only for the supernatural. We know that speaking out and over situations moves the Spirit to act in powerful ways but after watching your video it’s clear to see that God has equipped us also in the natural.

I do a lot of public speaking in my corporate work as a technical presenter in the architectural industry but feel called to use my gifts to present to audiences that will cause shifts in the lives of those attending. The gift of being able to empower people to feel there is more than financial gain and that what’s achieveable is far more satifsying and long lasting. Excited to embark on this journey and prepared for the hard work to ensure fulfillment of my calling. Bless you Rene.

    Hi Rene,
Thank you for that inspiring first video, I eagerly looking forward to the next one.

You have really hit the nail on the head with it being a calling. I have been in various careers and started various businesses but couldn’t find my niche in where I belong. All I knew was that I could write and speak, but coming from a poor background with limited education, I thought motivational speaking was not something that could.
When I started teaching Sunday school, I enjoyed motivating our young children and this enabled me to do what I love most of all, being an inspiration to others.
As the years progressed, I started realising the Lord has given me these talents to inspire, motivate and unify people in common goals and aspirations.

Once again, thank you so much

    Hi Dear Rene,
I’m excited to have met you hear and for the encouragement so far.
I’m a psychologist and a CEO of a networking market company and I have been speaking to motivate, inspire and encourage my partners to be focused in order to get to the top like me using my life history. I came from a poor family in village in Ebonyi, Nigeria in Africa, I started fending for my self from age 16 and struggled to have graduated from the university in 2014. I love talking to people and reminding them about the power of their dreams and visions.I like speaking about success and I have red books and watched videos on the topic. I have also reviewed most of the successful people in the world in likes of :Gate, Warren Buffet, Steve Jobes to mention but a few. This year I did one YouTube video on ” 4 questions on successful elevation ” I’m sure there mistakes but people appreciated it after watching.
However, I want to start speaking proper as a motivational speaker and the only audience I have is my company partners, sir how do I lunch my speaking career to the public?

My target audience includes youths, companys, business men and women and schools .
How do I start speaking to people outside my company? Because I love speaking about wealth creation, power of association, power of information, power of vision, dreams, purpose, self development, and everything about success.
Thank you sir for having accepted to be my mentor as anticipate your urgent reply.

I was coming up from Miami 3 years ago not doing the right thing and in Fort Pierce I was coming off at exit and went over the side where I flew out of the sunroof ripping my ear off breaking my neck my back my clavicle and my ribs while Landing in a ditch to drown. I was in a coma for two months they froze my body for 17 days and they did robotic surgery. But the best part is why late in my coma remember my dreams. And in my dreams it was like five lifetimes I was in prison kidnapped held hostage. But the very last lifetime I was a multi-millionaire flying from China to here and I had a beautiful wife. And with my grandpa was alive on Earth he was a fisherman that taught me how to fish he died 15 years ago but he was in my coma. He was the biggest fish in the whole world and everybody wanted to catch him and I was able to swim underwater and breathe with him. We would swim all over and then into his cave where he would turn back into my Papa. Well I was up in the clouds with my papa and this man and I don’t remember what he looked like but I know this man was God and we were looking down at something. I want to say we’re looking down at me on the operating table with tubes in my mouth my throat my chest because at that moment I realized my coma life wasn’t real and I hit my knees grab God saying I won’t do the things I’ve done I won’t be who I was please give me one more chance. At the very second I woke up by my coma. They told my family that Friday go home you’ll be dead by Monday they said I never walk or talk again. I was paralyzed from the nipple line down but I believed I would walk again God says I can do all things through him. So I continue to push and I’m standing up now taking steps still in a wheelchair but a lot further than I’ve ever been. I have dreams today to share my story with the world I also have a presentation I would like to send you if you would give me your email. If we believe it we can achieve it. I go to hospitals children hospitals treatment centers to share my story hope and strength. I could really use a mentor thank you for your videos God bless

    Good day,

I am amazed to say that I have looked up becoming a motivational speaker before and never found your videos. I believe I had more to experience at that time. I have lived an amazing story especially over the last seven years and I have always felt a calling just never new what exactly. Lately I have been praying every morning before I start my day around 6am and then I work on my business plans and motivational documents. Then a week pass and Sunday arrives and I stumbled across your video that just reached out from each word that was spoken.

Just wanted to thank you for opening up the door that seemed to be locked until now!

    Rene,

I came across this site from research. When I was in high school in Canada I heard my first speaker and to this day I can still recall some of what he spoke of. It has always stuck with me. Now, 25 years old and living in New Jersey as an Engineer, I am finding you. Video 1 was very motivating in itself and you keep the focus on the individual. I love that! What is inside me already is all that I need. I have had people in the past tell me before that I should follow this and overstepping the commitment issue is my first step.

    Hi Rene
    Can I ask you
What made you have the vision and idea of being a speaker when you still only had basic command of English
It’s amazing that you had so much conviction
What set you off on that path.
    And so young!
I am a few decades older than you were when you started but have a very clear vision of sharing my grasp of career planning after 26 years of advising professionals on career change.
What is stopping me… Not lack of material, not lack of speaking skills ( I’ve been winning toastmasters humour contests) not lack of desire. I think it’s lack of knowing how to market myself. What to do FIRST, then second etc
    Thanks for the great videos

The challenges were normal. Life if full of challenges. When I started, I was still trying to speak fluent English. I didn’t have any connections in the US. I didn’t have any corporate background experiences. I launched my speaking career while I as a doorman at a hotel. There were so many others. The point is, you have to focus on the reasons why you MUST do this versus the challenges.

My prayer is that, God may continue to Bless you abundantly therefore leading you to continue to be a Blessing to many many others. I want to take a moment thank you, thank you for lighting that fire under me that I so desperate needed. Awakening that calling in me that I was ignoring for fear of not knowing how to take the first step. By not knowing how to take the first step, my calling laid dormant inside me. Thanks to you and God, I have started writing topics of/and things that I plan to speak about, just like you, I too have been told I have the gift of gab, (I was tempted to respond to some of the comments left for you.) however, I plan to use this gift to help others, inform others, motivate others, enlighten others and most of all, inspire others. So from the depths of my heart, again I say thank you.

I have been waiting for God to reveal my calling. All I knew is I had a passion to want to help people, so I prayed about it and waiteded while He prepared me for what was to come. Little did I know that he had been giving me clues to my calling for a long time. Yet, it wasn’t until one day when I was feeling defeated, thinking I would never walk in my calling, that my sister recently told me that I had a divine gift for speaking and that I continually motivated her and others to become better people and that I should trust in God that he gave me that gift for a reason and that He would show me my calling in his perfect timing, that I finally let go and gave my complete trust to God. The next day I heard from Him, and that’s when he revealed that I would become a motivational speaker.
I had never before entertained the idea of becoming a motivational speaker, but despite all my questions of how, I just continued to trust in him. That’s when I stumbled on to your website, and I’m so glad that I did. I can’t wait to continue watching your videos, and begin the journey God has called me to take.

    Hi Rene,

I recently finished school earning an Ed.D. In Counseling Psychology. I also teach social work at the college level as well. I always find myself speaking to small groups of women or on an individual level by encouragement or motivational statements. Each year when I start with new students, I share my motivational short speech. At the end when students complete the program, I get a hand full of students sharing that my mini speeches not only encouraged them but it motivated them to not give up. I have many powerful testimonies about my life’s journey that God continues to bring me through. I have been praying to God to show me where he wants me to go in terms of my career! I find myself having a strong desire to want to share my story by motivativating others to succeed. I have done some internet searching on the steps to becoming a motivational speaker and I am a talker and engaging individual (whoever what have thought this shy person could talk in front of a crowd) but when I heard you talk about God that was a spiritual sign for me. Thank you for sharing your story and words of motivation.

    Sincerely,
    Dr. Howard

      Hi Sandy,

You are welcome! There’s an energy within you that is so powerful. You are on assignment! It’s time to share your stories and message on a massive level.

You just need to create a framework to teach and share the message. More importantly, determine the specific problems you are solving.

We are living in a world where the media is on a mission to make sure we are bombarded with negative messages every day. They are programming our subconscious for failure. Simply put, they are speaking death.

Someone needs to speak life! People need to know that they must take charge of programming their own minds. We are supposed to have abundant lives. But it takes an abundant mindset in order to have that life.

Be the one, shouting the good news. Breathe new life with your message! Renew minds!

Pleasant good day.. My name is Asha I am 28years. I watched the entire video and it motivated me more to take it to the next level. Growing up as a child my life was very hard and I never knew how to love myself and become a better person because I thought my poverty, lack of belonging and love from my family members was the way of life, until the age of 14 years I thought I found the love of my life who send me to secondary school until my early adulthood. During those times I thought all I was getting was love, but never realized that it was abused. Long story short my life was a struggle, never recognizing who I am and what’s my purpose is in life. I struggle with coming to terms how with loving myself and accepting myself for who I am.. Because I thought that I need others approval to be accepted in this world…I did some soul searching and during my final year in university I realized that I am responsible for myself and I needed to start believing in me regradless of what the others say or think about me.. I always have a vision of becoming a nurse and motivational speaker but some how I have a lot of Fear and Anxiety within because of my past personal experience..but my heart and soul says something different because every where I turn I see the need to motivate others.. I really want to do this it’s a calling and I hope that you can encourage me some where along. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts with me..God bless

This information was very helpful and encouraging. I really needed to hear it. There is definitely a voice, or unction inside of me leading me in this direction. I have always been told that I should be a Speaker. Whether it was telling my story; being a preacher; or becoming a Politician. People have always encouraged me. I am an inmate in the Florida Department of Corrections. I have 21 months remaining on a 15 year sentence. I want my experience to make a difference in others’ lives. I want to bring about change in our neighborhoods and motivate people to be the best person that they were created to be, and not to seek to be any more than that which they are capable of achieving. I see so many young men in here that are never going home because of foolish desires. I am tired of standing around watching lives being thrown away because of ignorance. I want to be a part of the solution to ending the destruction that is being self-inflicted in our communities and homes. I now, have a goal to bring a message that I feel God has given me. I just need to step out in faith and do it. Just open my mouth and I believe that the words will be exactly what God wants and they will accomplish what He has determined. Again, I thank you for this video and I eagerly await your response to my comment

Dear Rene, this video is exactly what I needed to hear! Very moving words.

I am a 20 year old mother and a student at my local community college. I was born legally blind and with albinism. Being legally blind made me face many, many obstacles in my life. From normal day to day activities like watching television, to adjusting myself in school and making good grades, to driving which I couldn’t do, due to my vision. These are all things that put a “damper” on my life, that made things very difficult at times. But I kept finding ways to do what I needed, and I kept succeeding.

It wasn’t until I took a semester off from college and moved out of an abusive home, that I realized how lucky I have been to have done the things that I have. I started telling people my story here and there, and I was actually surprised at their reactions, their congratulations, and the glimmer of hope I saw forming In their eyes. I never realized the things I was doing seemed “great” to other people, I just did what I had to do. These things I’ve been given in my life aren’t burdens, they are gifts from God. Things to keep me pressing forward every day. Over time, people started telling me things like “You are so helpful and understanding!” Or “You have something special with talking to people.” If I can do what I have done, surely I can do more, and surely I can help others along my way. I kept trying to find careers that would pay good and give me and my son worry free lives. But I was changing my majors left and right, and nothing seemed to fit. It was as if I was trying to fill a void that couldn’t be filled.

THAT’S when I got the idea to be a motivational speaker and I felt the dwindle of excitement in me to know that I could actually help other people! And it made me very happy. I am young, but I was blessed to learn many of the hardships in life early from watching my parents struggle for most of my life. I am in no way bitter and I know that living a good, fulfilling life is key to happiness. I want to appeal to younger people and reinforce the importance of ‘starting now’ to better their lives, and to help them on their roads to faith and how glorious that life can be.

I’m so very happy to have read your story and to have watched your video, and for how succesful you have been with your life. Hopefully, I can do the same!

    Hello Rene!
The video was awesome. It made me more sure than ever that I am meant to be a motivational speaker.
I found out in 2013, at age 52, that I had been born with 2 very rare diseases. It explained my medical history. The main one was discovered in 1916, yet it is practically unknown in the medical community. I see a specialist for every symptom. There is no organization to represent it or ribbon of awareness.
I also began my journey of healing from 51 years of abuse from my narcissistic Mother who had passed away the prior year.
I have overcame depression that was so severe that it mimics having dementia, called Pseudo-Dementia, panic attacks and severe anxiety.
I have 2 miracle children, I nearly lost my life giving birth to. I delivered the remains of the twin of my first born.
I was hemorrhaging to death after a surgical complication arose with my second child. A surgeon does emergency surgery to save your life. If they can’t work fast enough, an emergency hysterectomy…… or you die. My husband was sent out of the room and told I was dying. There was NO surgeon or anesthesiologist available. My life was spared with divine intervention on the mind and hands of my OB/Gyn and another physician he grabbed to help. They literally saved my life without a scalpel and with their bare hands. It was like having surgery with no anesthesia. It was excruciating and felt like they were pulling all my insides out. A surgeon may not have saved my life.
Every birth defect is associated with my main rare disease. Babies are born without eyes or ears, are deaf and never get to have a life like me.
Had I known as a child, I would not been allowed to play and do a lot of the things I did. God protected my life and continues to do so. He has spared my life on many occasions.
I wish to write my life story and a children’s book.
I used to be so shy, as a child, that I would not speak to my grandparents. I now could hold company with the president or address the nation.
I diagnose myself at times and help specialists to treat me.
I share my story to everyone I meet, in groups or as individuals. I am a walking miracle. I am here for a divine purpose. It is to educate physicians and specialists about my diseases. To bring awareness to them so that babies do not have to suffer the things that I have had to.
Thank you for doing what you do. For sharing your knowledge and for giving me a hand up to my dreams….
    God bless

I am very proud of you for keeping your spirit up. God can heal you. You can work your own miracle through the power of prayer and RIGHT thinking. Your story is amazing. The tongue has the power of life and death. Keep speaking life over your life and that of your children. Always say what you want versus what you don’t want. That’s the magic formula. Your story is a life-transforming testimony. Keep pressing on!

        Thank you Rene
I already have a miracle healing from God. I have had more than what I relate to you below. He is AMAZING in my life.
I am a woman of extreme faith. God has spoken to me since I was just in my teens. Revealed things to me. When I was young, I was shy and did not proclaim the words of knowledge He gave to me. But as I got older and bolder, I would speak His truth.
        My favorites…..
I knew when both of my children would be born. Against all odds, they were born the day He said they would be.
I knew when both my children were getting engaged. I told my daughter the day before her boyfriend came to ask for her hand. She prayed for this man and God sent him to her. They had only been dating 5 months. They are soul mates.
I told my son that he was getting engaged and had a ring in his pocket. And he confirmed it. He was in another state over 5 hours away from me and had not even hinted of getting engaged. He is now married to his soul mate as well.
My health started getting worse in January 2014 and continued to spiral down until the end of April 2015. By the end of this period of time, I was talking like I had had a stroke. My spine had deteriorated and the curve had started to reverse in the opposite direction causing me to lose 2 inches of my height. I had TMJ so severe that I wore a custom porcelain splint to keep my joint from going into my ear canal. I could remove it only to brush my teeth and to eat. My spine is pressing on my spinal cord and my arms and hands became so weak that I could pick up only a baby sippy cup to drink from. I got to where I could just walk a few feet and was always in terrible pain. I was in a hospital bed in my room. I could get to a lift chair next to my bed and from there, a handicapped toilet. I have never full range of motion in my neck due to the fusions that I was born with (C1 is fused to my skull, there is a space where I can break my neck easy and C2 and C3 are fused). I was further hindered in my range of motion from having a short muscle on the left side. I learned to drive with mirrors as I could not turn to see my blind spot without rotating my whole body. I then got to where I was having difficulty getting breath into my lungs. I had to tilt my head back to look at the ceiling to get some air in. I was praying to breathe from one breath to the next. I was having problems swallowing and was aspirating. I think my spine collapsed in the area of my neck where the space was. There are spontaneous events that occur in my disease. I want to know/prove what happened to me.
I had poured something down the front of my clothes. My (now ex) husband lifted me up out of my lift chair to take me to the bathroom and clean me up. When he did, I felt horrific pain in the left side of my brain. I though I was having a massive stroke. He took me into the bathroom and sat me on a shower chair that was in front of my sink. He removed my soiled shirt and cleaned me up and started putting another shirt on………..
        Rene,
When my head came out the other side of that shirt, I was talking normally!! I could not bring the symptoms on I had before. I moved my head as that is how it had started at first. Nothing happened!
My right eye socket and right ear felt funny.
I thought maybe my pupils were doing something. I had my husband to look at them (he is a nurse) and he said they were normal. I was getting excited because my speech was now normal……
I asked him to help me up and back to my chair.
When he stood me up, I felt stronger. I had a cane to help me walk. He helped me take a couple of steps and I used my cane. I looked at him and I could tell I was taller!! I started claiming God’s healing!! I got even more excited!
I noticed my neck felt straighter!
        My back felt straighter!
I was not in the pain I had been in before!!
        I started praising God more!!
I told my husband that I thought I could walk by myself! I gingerly took a step! and another and another!! I was walking!!! I took the cane I had been holding and threw it from my bathroom, across my bedroom and hit the other wall with it!! I was walking on my own!! I was screaming God’s praises!! Thanking Him and thanking Him over and over!!
I was healed from whatever had happened to me!!
I was praying just to breathe!!
Not only these things I mentioned were healed…. but the splint no longer fits my mouth and my joint never goes into my ear canal!!
I can also turn my head in both directions!! It is not possible with my anatomy to do this!!
I grew back 2 inches!! This is not possible!!
But with God, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!!
IMPOSSIBLE funny how the word possible is inside!!
God knew what He was doing…… Showing His power in the word even!
I love words. They have are powerful. They can be used to edify or destroy. I want my word to always edify. God first, others second, self last.
I am so amazed every day that He would do this for a nobody like me! I am nothing special. I am but filthy rags.
I am, however, YOUnique. As we all are. That is one of my favorite made up words.
I appreciate your kind words and encouraging spirit. You are truly called.
Thank you for being an inspiration to me and so many like me.
God bless, keep and prosper you in your work.
        Very Kindly Yours,

Thank you for sharing your life story and success story. I believe everyone born has a story, yet, many do not share their story of life transformation. One’s experience with people of all race and age, I know this is a given gift and talent, I have been called as a motivational speaker within my unique methods. During my early childhood sensing and knowing who I am and my gift with people. My purpose, which I discovered through years of trials and tribulations that have enhanced my character. I was a little hard-headed or yet afraid I was to write two books five years ago, which were to be the foundation of my keynotes in speaking to the audience. There are now in a working process, but seeking guidance to enlarge my circle with people who have overcome and mastered their success, such as yourself.

Thank you, Rene, as I will hear and soak up your leadership skills and guidance as a sponge to take me to the next level.

Is there such a thing as too young to become a motivational speaker? if so how young is too young? Half the people in my life don’t take me seriously as is so how is anyone else meant to given my age and ‘plethora of problems’. Makes me wonder if it is better to wait until I’m older and have a few more of these problems sorted out before I strive for this dream of mine. I really want to do this with my life and I won’t stop until I get there but I haven’t even told my parents about this dream of mine (out of fear that they’ll laugh in face).

It’s okay to be afraid at first. If you keep confronting your fear, you will come out victorious. When I started, I was extremely nervous. But, now I can speak to 10,000 people in a stadium without any fear. Practice. Practice. Practice. Even if you have to do so in front of one person.

Fantastic video, very encouraging stuff really. I recently turned my back on drugs. Yeah it is a sordid topic, if you watched the wolf of Wall Street then you get some idea of the lifestyle I used to have and lead.
Anyway long story short I would like to become a motivational speaker talking about my experiences and how I finally decided to come clean. I am in the process of starting my own blog, writing a book and starting a foundation to combat the use of drugs.
I have no experience but I do enjoy speaking… A lot and I have experience in speaking in front of crowds.
Any advice as to how to go about things as a motivational speaker against drugs?

The best place to start is where you are. The world’s stage is available to you. Youtube is a multibillion-dollar platform available to you for free.

Although there some steps you would need to take first. Steps like determining your audience, topic, and message.

What solution can you offer to your tribe? Do you have a process for them to get the results they are after? What kind of transformation you want for listeners?

I know you want to be a motivational speaker. I know you have powerful stories, which are your greatest assets.

But you need to organize your insights and stories in a way people can use them to get from where they are to where they want to be.

It doesn’t matter where you are in the world, you can do this.

Yes. As long as you can justify the cost, you should charge. The way I see it, you are providing value. You are helping others improve their communication skills. Charge a very low fee. Just enough to cover expenses such as printed materials or location rental.

Some businesses such as restaurant will allow you to host the meeting at their location for additional customers.

You can use the opportunity to sell more advanced speaking training for business people who want to make presentations at work or to promote their businesses. That is called a backend or additional services.

Although I would start with some charter members and charge them nothing until you the club starts picking up.

Start by providing value. It doesn’t matter where you live. For example, write a solid report (5 pages or more) on how to be a powerful communicator.

If you write a book on how to solve a specific problem in your society for a certain group of people (students, entrepreneurs, single parents, attorneys, etc.), they will buy it. You will be invited to be on discussion panels. You can be a guest on radio and television.

Make sure it’s a how to do something.

Daniel, your problem is not English. You write very well. You do some tongue twisters to retrain your tongue for English pronunciation. Just type that in Google.

I thoroughly enjoyed your video. It too has inspired me to follow my dreams to become an inspirational speaker. I have a passion for women who have been ripped, broken, and shattered, and I want them to know that life is not over…I want them to realize that there is a higher calling… a prize at the end if they don’t give up on life.

    Philippians 3: 13-14
13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Thank you for being an inspiration!

It’s awesome Candee that you know exactly who you want to deliver your message to. Make sure they can afford to pay you. Or, think about sponsors. I mean companies or organizations that already selling a product or services to your market. You want to basically be a bridge between the two. Make sense?

      • Candee

That makes a lot of sense Rene, Thank you! Could you please tell me how do I go about contacting an organization to be my sponsor? I really like the concept, but how would I go about it, and who would I ask to speak with?

        Reply
        • Rene Godefroy

Before you contact an organization, you must make sure they have a strong desire to reach the market you are targeting. Simply put, there’s a match. If not, you will be wasting your time.

So, let’s say want Bank X to sponsor you. Bank X is a small community bank that targets small businesses in the service arena such as plumbers, electricians, or tree removal services.

You provide marketing or customer services for those businesses. Now you have a perfect match. You are ready to pitch.

Your pitch is very simple. It may be something like this…

          “Good morning George,

I’m a longtime resident of this community, and I’m a member of the Witchita Chamber of Commerce.

I know you are targeting service based businesses in the community and I have a way to help open a lot of new accounts with them. Can we meet for 15 minutes so I can show you how?”

Of course, this is just an example. The point I’m trying to make is, you have to do your research first before you contact them. Go to their website, read their brochures, dig into their background, etc.

      Emmanuel,

You don’t have a problem with courage. Call it a challenge. Our choice of words can give us power over the challenge or disempower us. Goog handwriting has absolutely nothing to do with motivating others. Computers solved that problem years ago.

Thanks Dorcas. Yes, simplicity is how we can truly connect. The moment your speech, book, or message becomes too complexed, the mind checks out. That’s why great politicians simplify their message to one word and sentence. My main message is… No Condition is Permanent!

Well, I’m sure you have heard this saying… Coincidence is God’s way of staying anonymous. I’m so glad you found this site. Dorcas, the battle must be won in mind first. Your friends see something special in you. Now, you must declare and claim it.

As I always say, you will connect and inspire people that I will never be able to reach. And it’s the same for me. For whatever reason, we each have different vibrations. Those who vibrate with you, will only want to hear from you. There are millions of them. The people who connect with me only want to hear from me. The ones who connect with you only want to hear your message. Does that make sense to you?

Simply put, it’s time to start. The time is now and the person is you! Do something every day to move you closer to your dream and vision. Even if you are seeing a big impact at first, do it anyway.

Is there a difference between motivational and inspirational speaking?

    Reply
    • Rene Godefroy

      Hi Jojo,

Yes, there’s a difference. Although we call ourselves motivational speakers, we ultimately want to inspire our audiences. Motivation to me is like caffeine. It only lasts for so long. However, inspiration tends to last a lifetime. Maybe a teacher inspired you in school. Maybe my story inspired you. Maybe a movie or an event inspired you. Maybe someone fought an amazing fight with a disease that inspired you. Maybe it was a parent. Those usually are unforgettable. The secret to lasting inspiration is to tell stories that cause a deep emotional reaction.

    Dear Rene

It’s Tuesday evening, and I opened my laptop to check where I could get information and advise on motivational speaking, and there you were.

I was very encouraged to hear that I do not need any particular qualification to start.

This call has been in the back of my mind for sometime, however, I was not sure where to start. I could actually see myself speaking and drawing people’s attention. I strongly believe that this path is for me to take. Funnily enough, I’ve printed a business card with that title as part of my services (by faith!). It really sounded quite optimistic and too positive. But, I feel in my heart that my experience preaching in local churches would assist me in my passion and commitment.

I could only wish until now. I admire you. I have plenty of stories to tell as well which will resonate to people that would listen.

I would like to step out and start, otherwise, I will never start.

    Please advise.

    Thank you kindly.

    Kind Regards
    Jane

Jane, you will NEVER be ready to start. We all suffer from the imposter syndrome. My point is, just start. It’s like digging a well. At first, the water will be dirty and muddy. But, if you keep digging, eventually clear water will gush out.

What I mean is this: You don’t have to be good to start. But, you have to start to be good. Your first attempts will be okay. Just keep doing it. Soon, pearls of wisdom will flow out of you. It sounds like you have a lot going for you already.

My prayer is that you don’t get distracted and walk away from your dream. Though, I know God will keep nudging you. There are so many who are waiting for you to help them. Simply put, your 50% is 2000% for them. They are not looking for your perfections. They are rather looking for your imperfections. Hope that makes sense to you.

Good day! I have been running away from my calling of becoming a motivational speaker. I did not know where to start. Today, I typed in the question, “How do I become a motivational speaker?” and was led to your website. For so long I have been asking God what are my gifts, I know teaching is one but I want to use all my gifts for the work of God. That’s when it was revealed to me that I am to inspire the young middle school age children and others. So I am no longer running. Your #1 video was simple, yet inspiring me to set aside my fears and doubts and get on with the business that God has called me to do. With that being said, would you be willing to mentor me through this process. I would surely appreciate your guidance and help.

    Rene,

I wanted to go ahead and put this out there, because I am trying to put myself on the line and force myself into action. To quote the great Tony Robbins, I am trying to *CHOOSE*.

I am currently a sponsored speaker. I work as a freelance speaker, doing keynotes for small events hosted by a drug company, but the company’s budget for events has been cut in half over the last year or so and I’ve seen my income cut in half, so I am going to have to get out and start doing other public events.

I know my value to the drug company, but my message has been tailored for patients suffering from a specific disease. I don’t know what value I have as a speaker. That is what is holding me back.

I know you say that you don’t need any qualifications, but what you *DO* need is a story, and I need a way to monetize that story. That is what is currently holding me back.

Trying to motivate myself has been overwhelmed by responsibilities and at times doubt. Doubt is certainly poisonous if allow it to grow and NOT of God, who has promised He will not withhold any good thing from us. Looking forward to growth, development and service. Thank you. I always wanted to be a motivational speaker. I`m from South Africa, And i want to inspire people with my story too. I just don`t where to start, I love writing and speaking with audiences, i currently work as Claims Administrator, but the work i do is not what i`m passionate about and not something i want to do for rest of my life. I just know that i have lost of potential. But what i did where i work is, We established a Toastmasters Club and it has helped me develop great public speaking skills and i completed the Toastmaster Competent Communicator Manual and obtained a certificate and it made realize that, this is for me. This is what i want to do and make a living from. I know it wont be easy by I love the challenge. Most of the time people just come to my desk to talk to me because they say I have an ability to make them feel inspired and motivated, they leave my desk feeling good. Some even suggested that I should consider becoming a life coach. I will now be starting with the toastmasters Advanced Communicator Manuals. I just want to be the best motivational speaker South Africa has ever heard, we don`t have a lot of those here.

    Thank you for advise. 🙂

    Dear Rene,

I’ve just finished listening/watching your first video. Although I am a bit of a skeptic, I also believe that I would really enjoy being a motivational/inspirational speaker for many reasons. I’m 43 years young. My life thus far has been a true roller coaster of a ride but I am at a crossroads (one of many so far!!). I have had the benefit of life experience, work experience, study experience, travel experience, relationships experience, and many other experiences which have really tested my mettle and proven to myself that I am a strong, capable, intelligent, determined, focussed, empathetic, loving, perservering etc individual…… And I am ready to share my story with others on any scale….. You see I am motivated to work again but nobody seems to want to hire me…….. I have nine years of Federal Government administration experience, casual work experience, two lots of volunteer work experience and 3 qualifications at TAFE, Undergraduate and Postgraduate Tertiary (University) level in Justice/Criminal Justice and Criminology respectively. I’m wanting to secure employment in Research focussing on criminology, mental health, sexual violence, women’s issues and LGBTI matters as fields of study. I’ve had four job interviews but not job offers as yet. I have been looking for work in these areas for 3 years but to no avail. Which brings me to this juncture in my life. I want to tell my story to inspire others to take charge of their lives and keep on triumphing over adversity/challenges life throws at us and to never give up on a dream. You see my adversities began early in my life. They range from being sexually molested at age 10, 12, and 14 by people that I know to this day, going from an A grade student up to year 10 then down to an E grade student and failing year 11 twice, becoming anorexic (dropped to 49 kgs in weight) when I should be 65-77kgs for my height, leaving school in year 11, coming out as lesbian to myself, having a 1 year relationship with a fellow female student, she then leaving me to go back to her country, working for 9 years for the Defence Dept then losing my job due to cuts in defence spending, playing an indoor sport called Handball for 7 years at club, state and national level and missing out on playing in the 2000 Olympic Games because of injury, becoming unwell mentally and diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder and schizophrenia in 2001, going to university in 2002 and undertaking the 3 qualifications whilst dealing with my mental health conditions, graduating from the University of Melbourne (ranked No. 1 university in Australia) in 2012, and now looking for work again. So, given what I have shared with you now, it seems that I may be “qualified” to be an inspirational speaker and it indeed seems that now more than ever that I should give it a try as I really want to share my stories of inspiration in the hope that I inspire others to keep on going and to never give up on themselves or their dreams, whatever shape or form they may take. So, despite my skepticism, I do want to listen/watch more of your videos in the hope of garnering insights into what it takes to be a motivational speaker as I believe I possess the ingredients but require the method to become a truly sucessful inspirational speaker – to continue to give to myself and others as a way of giving back to those who have been there for me at pivotal points in my life when it seemed very dark indeed. Thanks for sharing your journey, insights and thoughts on being a motivational speaker…… I can’t wait for the next instalment of your informative videos. Cheers, Sophie

It sounds that I am ready to inspire and motivate people, after seeing the first video, it is so clear and powerful message you sharing with us. It is not about qualification is about what you have and think to share that changes or inspire/motivate people.
I am looking forward to learn from you.

    Thank you so much.

    Hi, Rene,

Bought your book. Reading it with heightened interest. Very well-written! A Reader’s Digest thumb-up is serious “manufactured credibility” …to borrow your quote. Of course, you had long ago established credibility prior to authoring your book. I’m taking your encouraging words to heart and I’m getting started on this speaking journey, too. Thanks so much.

I loved your video. I agree with what you said. I am 29 years old, and I myself have gone through struggles in life where I found myself aking: what am I doing with my life? I have overcome those failures and looked inside of me and realized that I have a great deal of wisdom. And Im ready to share that wisdom with the world. I dropped out of college, and though I have tried to go back, I have come to realize that there is not a single class that could teach me how to bring my voice out and share with the world what I have to give. I look forward to seeing more of your videos and learn how to become a great motivational speaker.

Thank you Rene for taking the time to share your insights on how to get to the next level. Everyday I speak life and motivate my team(employees). I’ve been blessed to have a couple of speaking engagements and I have always thought man I wish this could be my job everyday. I love people. I love helping and watching them grow. I love to inspire and motivate. This has been a call yet I never knew how or where to start. I always thought but I don’t have a degree how can I get anyone to listen to what I have to say and actually pay for it. What I appreciate most is that this is actually free living on a very tight budget I don’t have access to spend on hoping this will lead me where I need to go. I will continue to watch your videos and grow. I will commit to moving to the next level and with your help I hope to be one of the greats. Thank you so very much. Our job is to motivate physically and mentally, be the cheerleader, and the counselor. I do massage, same thing kind of. I could do this. I had a client that did this and told me what he makes. I said “i’m in the wrong damn business”.

I’ve been extremely talkative my whole life and I am also an Empath which mean I take on everyone else feelings and thoughts absorbing their energy as a sponge….My husband recently began flirting with another girl after year telling me he has fallen out of love but he has never really tried to repai us….and I am still very much in love with him…and we had our first baby just 3 months ago…when I found out about this girl, who he has only texted with and spoken to at work, i contatced her and she didnt know the truth that he was married to me but thought we were both out of love and seperated…this hurt me deeply…i asked my husband how he could do such a thing to flirt with someone else before we had decided on what we shoudl do with us…he said he just got carried away and that he felt excited for the first time in years…this only hurt me more…Im at home caring for our daughter i never see ppl anymore i moved to Uk for my husband and gave up my well paid job and apartment because i believe in love…He told me I talk too much and rarely listen…although I do…its just i listen by feeling and hought, reading body language and absorbing the energy of the person I meet, so I might come across like i interrupt or not hear someone out although they usually get amazed how well i understand them….I tried to explain how being an empath makes a person constantly be washed over with everone eles emotions and its like being a mirror…we refelct what we absorb of others..and we may seem moody or having different personality from day to day…in this moment I realized that my whole life Ive been affected by this trait andit has spoilt so many important relationships for me…because talking to me is letting all these emotions out keepin a free energy flow in me…but of course to those closest to me it can be really annoying…but over the past few years ive met more Empaths who knows or are unaware of their skill…and Ive acted as a spiritual mentor or guide and hen my husband told me that he flirted with someone selse because of my talkativity and because I dont work after my depression (which also came due to being hit with too many emotions I just couldnt handle) in that moment I knew that becoming a motivational speak talking about being an Empath, is what I am meant to do…I wanna help more people with this gift and curse and help them live with it instead of struggle to cope with having this ability…and on top of it if I can make a living of it, i will both be using my talkativity to my advantage and at the same time meet more people who knows how it is to be a hyper-sensetive being….And somehow God gave me the direction to your website and these videos and I am forever grateful…cause you are my light in the darkness which has hit me right now, so thank you thank you thank you, you truly empowered me!

Thanks for sharing with us. You can only put your total trust in God. What may appear to be a weakness can often be a strength if you channel it the right way. Speaking to motivate and empower others would be the way. Stay strong. Don’t live your life outside in. Live it inside out. What your husband does or doesn’t do is an outside circumstance. Who you are is much bigger than where you are and your circumstances. There’s greatness inside of you. You were created in His image.

Thank you for your feedback. It’s actually a lot easier than you might think. Like they say, if you think it’s hard, it’s hard. If you think it’s easy, it’s easy. Breaking through into the speaking biz is based on credibility. Fortunately, you can manufacture credibility. At the end of the day, they pay you top dollars because of your credibility not so much because of what you know.

WOW, I just went to your coaching sight as well, and must agree with you Sir, that you’re absolutely right!
I’ve been giving advice for free for a looong time, and I know deep in my heart, that everything I’m telling them is the absolute and 100% truth, and still, some people have either a hard time believing this, or just used to being in negativity and misery for a long time (this case I’m talking about my stubborn parents, who actually DID own their own business-a bar/pub overseas), and ME-OVER HERE IN THE US ALL BY MYSELF AS A YOUNG WOMAN SINCE 20 yo, I’M BEGGING THEM TO give that life up over there, and sell the business and come over here.
Because my dream is MUSIC and MOVIES. I’m a singer, rapper and a songwriter/composer.

Of course, having no family here, and being in how should I say, not the best circles-abusive boyfriends, unappreciative friends, fake people, jealous people, whatever…
I mostly relied, what am I saying, ALWAYS relied on MYSELF AND GOD only.
Cause before I left home in Europe, I felt, nobody understood me, and even though my folks were there, i felt like I was just growing up ALL BY MYSELF, and all they did was fed me!
So many times I felt, I was an orphan, and they ignored ALL MY WISHES, even thou I had told them at the age of 5, MY DREAM was and IS to become a SINGER/ACTRESS.
They are an were, well now, that my father passed away, RIP H.Z., still both of them are very very stubborn and hard headed people, unfortunately. (which can be a good thing in some cases)

But like you said, having the courage for change is important, very much indeed, so I’m proud of myself, that I survived almost 13 yrs here in NYC all by myself, without any help!
The first time I felt, I wanted to speak to great audiences was a few yrs ago. Then, I actually dressed up, and spoke to my then abusive, now ex boyfriend.

Later on I sort of became just a face, a beautiful face in a strip club-yes I was a dancer, I became this person, that puts on a mask every night, hiding her OWN SELF, not speaking to anybody because of my DEEP DEEP PAIN IN MY HEART AND SOUL, cause I felt unhappy that I’m not able to do my MUSIC, and my parents aren’t even here, but I had to make a living.

MY CALLING IS MUSIC, and I’ve been writing songs for a long time, some of them are online.
The kind of person I am, is that I know exactly what I want, I put it down on paper, make a plan,
but sometimes some shit comes my way, something in life, that tries to knock you down, of course the wrong type of boyfriends too, and then it’s like I lose my focus, and being, them giving ME (who is smarter and more intelligent) the wrong advice! PLEASE!
    Give me a fucking break!

So, I’ve been thinking about helping other battered women, that survived domestic violence.
I always wanted to talk to those.
And also people with mental disorders, who are actually very gifted and smart and intelligent people, only society misunderstands them!
And I do have knowledge about spirituality and God and Jesus as well, and metaphysical stuff concerning life and the Soul because throughout the years all by myself, the good thing was, that I read a lot of books on these subjects.
And a lot of people feel so comfortable around me, anytime I ask them what their problem is, they are ready to tell me their entire life story, and I listen, because I actually care.
And this is, where your words come in, that for all this advice, if it’s just given away for free,
people don’t value it! And don’t appreciate it, and take it, but after that, you don’t mean shit to them any more!
So, I demand respect, for ALL MY KNOWLEDGE, and everything I’ve been through, and more.
I was never a big fan of money, because it does NOT make me happy, and it can’t buy health or happiness, so for this reason, my mistake was, I DID NOT SAVE IT, in case a bad time might come my way, or an Emergency, like the passing of my beloved Daddy, whom I haven’t seen for 13 years-I’m his only daughter!

Another bad thing was, I didn’t further my studies in music production on a computer. This was also, because of lack of finances, and having to work as a “mute” stripper without a voice or anybody caring and giving a fuck, and dealing with all sorts of trouble, pain, health issues and psychological issues requiring therapy sessions.

So, Sir, I am also from a little town, my case Europe but I call myself a “GREAT CITY WOMAN”

Another thing about me, I used to say even when I was little is: “I WANT, but I don’t know how.”

So I hope you can tell me how 🙂

How and where I can start making money speaking to crowds, be it battered women, mentally ill patients or spiritual people desiring to know about God, Jesus and esoteric studies.

    Thank You

I have a message that can help others but I’m hitting road blocks on getting it out .. I was beat, molested, and left alone & was doing drugs by 9 years old .. My parents divorced before I was one .. I only went to the 8th grade but did eventually get my GED & joined the national guards . Because I had to go to speech school family thought I was dumb .. Until just 5 years ago I had read 2 books ( Herbie the love bug & Mark Twain ) now that’s all I do is read I barley watch tv . I only read the bible & spiritual , motivating books . I’m a volunteer Chaplin for a truck stop ministrie and volunteer at the mens shelter .. I feel I’m being led to reach out on a higher level & been told by others i should , but I get panic attacks when talking to a crowd & don’t know how or where to start to prepare a speech , and am educationally intimidated .. ~ ur very inspiring and I’d love to here any advice u could give me .. Hi Billy,

I understand. I was 24 years old the first time I read a book. I met a young lady who introduced me to Og Mandino’s books. She also told me that I was a great writer. I believed her. I took to reading as if it were going out of style. I read so many books!

I tell people all the time that my output is in direct proportion with my input. Many people think I’m so brilliant and smart. They think I have something they don’t have. I tell them if they would burry their faces in books like I do, they would be just as brilliant.

Your story is very inspiring. Since I started sharing here on speaking for a living, I get to hear some amazing stories. Now, the best way to get rid of your panic attacks when talking is to be yourself. Yes, I know that sound simplistic. But it’s the cure.

You see, when you’re speaking, you don’t show up. Another you shows up. You’re trying to be someone you are not. Guess what? You good enough for the world. When I first started speaking, I wanted to be like Les Brown, Anthony Robbins, Zig Zigglar, Jim Rohn, etc. However, I became successful when I decided to be me.

There’s a reason why reality shows are so big on TV. It appears to be real. In fact, most people think that stuff is not rehearsed and planned. You will never connect with others to make a lasting impact unless you are real. Next time you are going to speak, remind yourself that you are going to be totally you.

Now, of course you have to show up with some energy and a happy you. There are times when you are in the zone. I’m talking about times when you are excited. Maybe it’s the time when you standing in church and the choir is on fire. Well, at that time you are simply a happy you. You are not trying to be anybody.

It’s like writing. You can be so natural and conversational when you are talking to your friends. However, the moment you start writing, another you shows up and you freeze (writer’s block). It’s the you who is critical. It’s the you who thinks others will judge you. Are you seeing what I mean?

Write just like you would talk to a friend. Speak just like you would talk to a friend. I would love to mentor all the people who ask. But, it’s not possible. I’m really busy and I get lots of requests for mentoring. I have to make a living.

    Rene,

    For me the important lesson of your first video is this;
When we begin to listen to our inner voice, more and more, that quiet voice inside our head that tells us “we can” ,it quickly develops the power to drown out the outer voices in this world that scream “we can’t”
As always great thanks for your courage.

Question: I have an incredible life story and just know that I could use it to inspire people IF I could figure out my “message.” Do you have any advice on coming up with a beneficial message to share with others? How did you come up with yours?

    Reply
    • Rene Godefroy

      Beth,

Your question is outside my coaching sessions. It’s not a one answer-fit-all. During our coaching, I learn about your background to direct you in the right direction.

That said, let me try to give you some tips. When I started, I didn’t know what my message was. I simply started sharing my story. That was not good. You see, I didn’t have a coach. I would NEVER be able to get away with that approach in today’s market place.

1- You should determine what are the main lessons you learned through your journey. Maybe it’s about perseverance, self-esteem, leadership, risk-taking, boldness, courage, etc.

2- Once you determine what it is for you, then you take that one big lesson and make it your message. Find a group of people in the marketplace that you know your message will resonate with.

3- Start creating content with it (Speeches, trainings, articles, CDs, DVDs, special reports, books, social media updates, etc.) to share with the world.

4- You tell your story not just for the sake of telling it. You tell it because you want your niche market to know they should show up BIG and live life confidently. They matter. They can rise above their circumstances. They have greatness on the inside of them. If I can do you it, you can do it, too.

These are just examples. Do you see my point Beth?

I am from Haiti too and was scared that my accent might block me from speaker to big audiences. Seeing you actually make me feel so powerful, so fired up that nothing can Stop me! Thank you! Looking forward to your other videos and putting money aside for coaching sessions.

Carly, it has nothing to do with you accent. US Citizens are afraid as well. It’s always one fear or another. Have you heard a powerful man in California by the name of Arnold Swarchenegger? The governor of California. He can’t even pronounce the name of the state right.

There are many celebrities in the US with heavy accent. Do you remember Dr. Ruth? Anyway, your accent is a plus for you. The key is to make sure people can understand you. Heck, I still have words I can’t pronounce right to this day. But, I still get paid the big checks. What a country!!!!!! Please don’t wake me up if I’m dreaming!

When you can use emotional words in stories that can move a crowd, they forget you have an accent really quick. When people are hurting emotionally, they don’t care what you sound like if you can heal them with your words. It’s like waking in at 5am with a really bad toothache.

You don’t care what the closest dentist sound like. You just need someone to pull that tooth for you immediately. You don’t even care where the person went to school. Of course, a handful of people will turn you off. However, don’t focus on them. They would turn you off for any reason. I speak the ones in the crowd who are there to hear my message in spite of my accent.

Such a practical and simplistic way to put it, Rene. The truth usually is that way. Most people already know the truth but struggle to believe in it, especially when it seems impossible. With God nothing is impossible. I don’t have a website yet so looking forward to learning how to do so and then creating the site.

I know I am called to do motivational speaking (it was the last thing I desired to do with my life yet I have found that I may make my plans but the Lord determines my steps. Afterall this life is not my own.

Rene, what do I do now? Make a website, market myself….how do I do I make a website? What are the best ways to market myself?

Please don’t write an autobiography for the same of writing one unless you are a top celebrity with millions of fans. Your life is not that important to the world just by itself. Maybe your friends and family will be interested in your autobiography. That’s about it.

You need to write a semi-autobiography. Simply put, share your story because you want your readers to extract a lesson from it. Make sure you communicate clearly what that lesson is. Story, lesson, story, lesson, etc. Got t?

        • Lashawna

Of course I realize that I am not a celebrity and that my story won’t interest many people without a message. Searching for love in the wrong places would be the message.

Got it Lashawna. As long you have a message and points that solve a problem for the marketplace, you are on the right tracks. Keep pressing on.

    • Rene Godefroy

Yes, you need a website. You must have an avenue to share your message with the world. But more importantly, you need to know exactly what topic (self-confidence, leadership, customer service, overcoming obstacles, perseverance) you want to share and what segment of the market you want to reach out to. If not, you will be all over talking about a lot of disconnected things. On one can be perceived as an expert on everything.

    Good Afternoon Rene!

I would just like to thank you for sharing such valuable information for free. I have already learned a great deal from you and only watched two video’s. I have recently got really serious about writting a book thanks to you. I also was feeling a little apprehensive about a professional speaking career at this moment because I’m only 28yrs old and some might say that I have not lived enough but from your video’s and so many people telling me that I truly inspire them, i’m now ready to dive in full force, once again thank you for this valuable information, i’m soaking it all up like a sponge :D.

      Sophia,

I think your approach is not the right one. Don't call companies to ask for an opportunity to speak. Call companies because you have something you want to gift them. Create a piece of content related to your topic and that is needed in the corporate arena. Then, call the HR department to offer to send the CD, DVD, book, etc. The new way of marketing is not to be a beggar. Instead, be a giver.

    Hi Rene

Firstly , I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart , for many reasons but above all to help people realize they do not need to be qualified to do something like motivational speaking!

My personal opinion which I have had long before crossing your website has always been that we all have a unique story to tell. I like you believe that we each go through different circumstances in life that make and shape us into who we are. You have just confirmed that opinion and belief!

I was born with Spina Bifida Myelomeningocele, the worst form of spina bifida which leaves alot of nerves damaged. I am 32 a multi certified reiki master and spiritual healer however my spiritual path has been tested many times. In the beginning of 2011 , I lost my right kidney and by God’s grace I am still here.

You have shown me that even poverty and lack of money can give one the life they choose as it is your will to reach your dreams. God has shown me that it is some form of counselling or motivational speaking that I need to do to help those that need the inspiration and motivation to reach their goals in life and it lead me to your website after a long search through many other websites , I came to yours and was simply blown away

    Kind regards

Hi Rene! I just want to say how amazed I am by your testimony! I recently decided to become a motivational speaker. After making my decision, I researched online the steps to becoming a motivational speaker. And then came you! You mentioned being credible in another video via writing a book, blog, etc. I liked the 10-10 method for writing a book. I have started writing my personal testimony. After losing my mom at 13yrs old, having a baby at 18, college graduation, a marriage that ended within 3 yrs due to a spouse with drug addiction, another child at 27, two nursing school graduations (LPN and RN), family deaths of my aunt and grandmother 30 days apart, becoming a minister, and now a single mother of two, 36 yrs old and a new homeowner of a new construction property….I believe I have a story to tell! If it had not been for the Lord on my side, need I say any more. I am ready to receive all the insight I need to be able to share and spread the gospel through my testimony in that it will lead others to Christ and overcome the words of the naysayers! There are many topics that I could expound on based on life experiences. Any idea of where to start when I begin speaking? I think my main arena will be church workshops/seminars. But I would definitely like to crossover into professional seminars related to healthcare/nursing, therapeutic communication, nursing documentation, and behavioral management. And should I wait until my book is complete and published before I start speaking? Thank you so much for allowing God to use you to bless others with your knowledge, and being the vehicle to help others tap into their calling and achieve their expected end! Be blessed,

    Tijera

Please may i have the videos in format that will enable me view it.I have tried viewing it severally but without success.

I have watched some of your videos and each time i do i leap for joy.I haven't had absolute peace cos it seems i am taking too long to kick start and share with the world what is inside of me.I am from a broken home but have weathered the storm severally despite my background.

I resigned my appointment with a bank last month cos i was constantly feeling frustrated working there, the reason being that most of the bank's policies aren't just right as you are only promoted if you have a degree.

I have worked severally as relief to some of these degree holder's while they were on leave and didn't fail for once. And i also know that degrees don't make men but decree does.

I know i am an educated man even though all i have is a diploma,i have been studying tirelessly the lives of those who have made tremendous contribution to this world.

Though i haven't written any book but i am ready to start my motivational career anyway, what do you suggest? I believe i am ready as i do not take lightly the place of learning, like Jim Rohn noted "Learning is the beginning of wealth, learning is the beginning of health, learning is the beginning of spirituality, searching and learning is where the miracle process all begins"

I know i will succeed because i am ready to help enough others get what they want"You can get anything in life you want,if you will help enough others get what they want" Zig Ziglar

I intend writing my book before the year runs out.I will be registering with writers bureau shortly.

Your response will be one of the best gift i will ever receive.

    Mr. Godefroy,

I found your website at just the right moment. I’ve heard it said that when the student is ready, the teacher will appear. I currently teach adult education, GED and English as a Second Language, and I am taken by your story. I like my job a lot, and at moments, I absolutely love it. However, I know there has to be more for me to do.

From the time I was a small boy, I’ve felt that I have a call to speak to the world. I assumed it was a call into Christian Ministry, but I now I know it’s something different than that. I love Jesus and his teachings, and I sincerely believe that God is working in human history to reconcile humankind to Himself, but I didn’t understand how I fit into that work. I now understand that if we as people can learn see ourselves as loved children of the living God, there is nothing that will be withheld from us. God has given us talent, time and each other to make the most of this world and our lives, and it’s up to us to do just that. He’s not going to save us from ourselves; we have the choice to fail if we like. And as soon as we understand that success in life is a choice, we become completley empowered to live on purpose. The choice is ours, and we make a choices everyday about the kind of life that we want. The choice to succeed is not a one time decision. It’s a series of decisions we make every time we choose to things that put us ahead. You said it best when you said that “your word is law unto you.” I have another saying that goes well with that. Noboby consciously fails on purpose, and few people succeed by accident…My success will not be an accident.

I believe this is right time. I believe you are the appropriate teacher. I look forward to learning from you.

    Be blessed.

When you are not seeing tangible results and you’re struggling to make ends meet, it’s very tempting to walk away. I stand as a living testimony that you have to keep pressing on. Be happy for the few you’re inspiring and touching. God is keeping score. Bigger things are on the way for you.

Feel the same feelings you felt when you first received your books. Imagine you just wrote your book. Imagine your speech is fresh and brand new. Go share it with an audience anywhere regardless of the size. Even if you have to go to a shelter and encourage those who are beaten so they don’t give up.

Or does the audience choose you?

      Melanie,

You are right. Sometimes your audience chooses you. However, you should start with your experiences.

Let’s say you have been working in the healthcare industry for the last 15 years. It makes sense to go after that market. Here’s why:

You can really be an effective speaker when you truly understand your audience’s frustrations, fears, pains, problems, etc.

Once your audience members realize that you understand their problems, they want to listen to you. They feel like you can identify with them. They feel connected to you.

Last year, I spoke for a group of transient sales professionals for Hyatt Hotels. I spent a lot of time researching the audience. I interviewed some of their peers. But, I had an advantage.

I worked in the hotel industry for 14 years as a doorman. I knew a lot about my audience. I knew the right questions to ask. The presentation was outstanding!

One lady came to me and said, “You really know what a transient sales person goes through. You spoke as if you were one of us.”

Hi and thanks a lot, Rene. I’m from DOMINICAN REPUBLIC , I’m still learning english, I can understand though. I was in a very difficult situation recently cuz I was doing what my dad wants me to be. so I was in college studying something that I even don’t like. Fortunately for many reasons I realized that this is my life, I have to do what I really want, not what my Dad wants me to be. I’m watching videos everyday all about motivation and how to be successful in life, that’s why I found you, cuz I like it and it motivates me.

I talk with my friends here ,and they see my motivation and I motivate them unconsciously, so I just do it. The same case is at the institute when I tell my classmates what they have to do in order to impruve their english.

I like a lot this, In fact I can see myself in a stage. Because I realized that I don’t want to be a Graphic Designer I have stoped my carreer. And Now I just want to be a motivational spearker to help people all over the world, and particularly here in my country.

Recently I was handing in résumés to work in a call center, and now I’m just wating for that happen. And I’m also going everyday to my english institute.

Now I just want to get that job “to get rid off this situation” to begin, and share my potential with people.

    Do you think I’m right?

    Reply
    • Rene Godefroy

@Adrison First of all, let me say your graphic design skills will come very handy. It can cost a lot of money to create high impact visuals that position you as an authority. Yes. Do what you want. Live your life… Not your dad’s life. Listen to what he says. But ultimately follow your heart. Follow your bliss.

By the way, don’t worry about your your English. Hey, I’m still learning myself. What connects you heart and soul with an audience has nothing to do with the language you speak. In fact, I always make fun of myself on stage about the way I speak. I use my accent as an advantage. I use it to make the audience laugh.

When I first started, I used to be so concerned. Then, the check started getting bigger and bigger. I figured it’s okay. Shoot, maybe I can charge extra for the accent. People often say, “I love your accent.!”

Yes Therese! Jesus will never fail you. You have to trust and believe that God has already equipped you with everything you need to succeed in this life. There’s nothing missing. There’s nothing broken. Just take the first step and the next. Give God something to bless for you.

Throughout the Bible, God always multiplies something. Think of the fish, the bread, etc. Moises was holding on to something while he tells God about his inadequacies. God had to ask him what’s in his hand. Okay, don’t get me going this morning. LOL! I have to get ready for a presentation. Press on!

I always like motivating people, although i am sometimes so hard on myself. Last semester i chose to motivate a class of high school students as part of an assignment for an Effective Communication course i was taking, it was great. I plan to keep up with the students to see how they are doing because they are supposed to be taking the Secondary school exams soon in my country. The principal was excited that i wanted to come to her school, because of the nature of the school people speak very negatively about the students… I was glad that i could have gone and given some sort of motivation.

@Annisha Congratulations Annisha! This is the beginning of something big for you. Don't let the momentum die. Did you ask the principal for a testimonial? Did you also ask if she knows another principal to introduce you to? I want to know how you are leveraging this one opportunity. Having the opportunity is one thing. But leveraging it is another.

That is why when I tell my coaching client to speak for free, I go into in depth ways to leverage depending on their unique situation. Maybe you can ask to go back and deliver part 2 or another vital program for the students… Such as goal setting, self-esteem, etc.

      Hey Frank,

I like what you said about talking straight through you. That’s exactly the kind of feedback you want from the people you are connecting with. Yes, it’s time to shine your light. Remember that it is a process. It’s not an event.

That means you have to start now with whatever you have and where you are. The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. I’m not sure how many steps you have taken yet.

Not sure how many videos you have created. Not sure how many articles you have written. Not sure how coaching clients you have… paid or free. Not sure if you have an outline for your book. Not sure if have been to a school or class room in your area to speak. I’m just saying to
      take some steps. Start.

I was speaking to a large audience just today and said the same thing. Just get going and build momentum along the way. Do you see what I mean?

Like you said in the previous video, each one of us has a unique set of experiences, obviously one has a story to tell.I have always envied seasoned speakers and wish to emulate them.I even considered taking a special course. After listening to you I have reconsidered my position.

Now my question is what do I do if I am called to speak and I know nothing about the subject or I don’t even remotely relate to it,e.g addressing corporate society yet ,all I know is medicine.Do I go to the libraryor Google to read up something prior to taking that assignment. What if they ask me difficult questions?,What if I forget my sentences?

    Dudu

    Reply
    • Rene Godefroy

      Dr. D G

If you don’t know about the subject, don’t sweat it. Don’t go to the library and do some deep research. It’s not about intoxicating the audience with deep content. It’s a mistake many make. I used to make the same mistake as well.

Influence does come from depth. It comes from simplicity. All the other videos will reveal to you exactly what I mean. My speaking career began to soar the moment I understood this one concept.

Your premise is the reason why so many are frozen and don’t know how and where to start. Anyway, I am glad you are on board here.

      Gil,

You are on your way! You need to become a magnet for companies. Unfortunately when you are starting out, they don't want to talk to you. But there are ways around that.

You see, everywhere you speak, whether it's a church or a non-profit group, the audience is made up of corporate America. You might want to start thinking that way.

All you have to do is to strategically tell the audience you speak for companies. All right, now you want to know how to become a magnet, right?

      Here's how:
1- Find relevant and hot topics that companies want. You can find out by…
2- Joining discussion groups on linkedin that are discussing the topic you choose to talk about. (It's easy to spot the hot topics.)
3- Start creating videos, audios, special reports, newsletter to send to them.
4- You have to find a way to marry your story or stories with their hot buttons.
5- Get your Youtube Channel going with videos.
6- Compile a list of those hot topics then write a few pages on each to make it a book.

      Miriam,

You English is very good to me. Your punctuations are just fine. I am not sure your writer’s block has anything to do with that. It seems to me that you don’t have a good enough outline for your book.

You see, if you don’t know exactly what you want your readers to do differently after they finish reading your book, that’s a problem. You gotta start with the end in mind.

I would suggest you don’t write. Instead, try write a tight outline with all the chapter headings and subtitles. Start with you main topic. What problem are you trying to solve?

Greetings Mr. Godefroy, It has been sometime ago that I first saw you in person, when you visited Muskegon, Michigan. You spoke at the Frauenthal Center. Anyway I was quiet most of my life, shy if you will, like yourself. But in my acquiring self knowledge of my history, people, places and things, it has caused me to not only talk and teach people about it, but I have people always telling me that, I should become a speaker. So hearing your story inspires me brother, and I can't wait to see the other video's. Peace.

After few attempts, I was able to watch the video. I love it. It is great. It is inspiring. I truly love your story and love listening to your speech, especially the part you said ‘You are more than qualified.’ That was very encouraging.
A few years ago I had a calling to become a public speaker. I joined Toastmasters, unfortunately I had to discontinue due to my work schedule.
I believe my calling is to inspire and encourage others. About eight years ago I came to this country with barely anything. I left my three children back home, which was very difficult to do.
Many times I felt like giving up and going back, but I knew if I went back we would have no future.

I lived here with a belief that nothing is permanent in this life. That kept me going. I knew my situation was going to change, I only had to work hard, persevere and keep on believing in God.
I can’t wait for your next video. I also ordered two of your books; Kick Your Excuses Goodbye and No Condition Is Permanent. Thank you for being our mentor. May God Bless.

      Daniel,

The only way to build confidence is by doing. The more you speak, the more confidence you build. I was REALLY shy when I started speaking… Very nervous. I kept speaking.

If you confront anything you are afraid of, that thing will disappear. Find opportunities to speak anywhere… When you are at a meeting, in class, at church, etc. Just raise your hand
      and say something.

What are you afraid of now? Are you afraid of approaching the opposite sex? Are you afraid of asking for a raise? Are you afraid of snakes? Are you afraid of heights? What is it? Confront. Confront. Yes! Face your fear head on!

Just go out and do what you are afraid of. The more you do, the more you become.

No one is teaching anything new. However, we all need reminders. When I speak, I remind my audience members to live and do things a certain way.

Besides, If you overcame anything, you can share with others how you did it. If you parents or friends overcame anything, learn how they did it and share with your audiences. If you learn something that is working for you, share it! Make sense?

I feel blessed to have found your vidio online. After listening to you for only a few minutes , I believed that I had found the right person to guide me through the path of becoming a motivational speaker. Your story is amazing, as a Christian I know that there is nothing impossible with God. In your video I heard you stating that we need to write a book. Thanks to God I have been given the ability to write four Christian books. However, I self published, I didn't sign a contract. Many people have said they were blessed by my books.

I believe God is calling me to become a motivational speaker. I heard it in my spirit as I prayed the other day. The thought has also come to me years ago, but I never tried to find out how to make it happen. I'm not ready to start at this time, because I'm a caregiver for my mom, and my aunt. My goal is to prepare myself for the future.

Your problem is because you are thinking about yourself when you are stage. You should be thinking about your audience. Focus on them… Not you! You see, you are there to help your audience improve their conditions.

If you shift your focus from looking good to inspiring and uplifting your audience, everything changes. You will no longer be nervous. You will not feel they are look straight through you.

Just wanted to say thank you for the confirmation that God has called me to speak. I thought i was crazy thinking such thoughts. i have always had the gift of speaking in front of audiences, and motivatiing others to pursue their dreams ie actually assisting with a plan of action and coaching them along the way. A long time ago my children told me that I had a gift for making people believe in whatever i was saying, crude comments but the essence is there. i receive emails and comments from people thaniking me for listening, discussing, and giving them that extra boost helping them reach their goals. So, with those thoughts I asked why am I not doing what i really enjoy doing? I now hate my job becausr I've spent so many years ignoing my own greaat talent. PIAange,

The way to go about displaying your gift is go put your message in every format… Video, articles, audio, special reports, power point slide, mindmaps, etc. Then use the existing distribution channels out there such as youtube, vimeo, article directories, facebook, twitter, slide share, etc.

There are not guidelines. You decide how much you want to charge. In this field, value is intrinsic. The more people you are impacting, the more money you ask. It's hard to tell. I don't where you are or what you have done.

My fee is $10,000. I decided on that price. That's a high fee. Some of my peers charge $25,000. I'm thinking about raising my fee soon. Many would think that's too high. Well, they are NOT my target market.

This whole thing is psychological game. It's a mindset.

      PiAnge,

The answer to your question is very simple. Take what you intellectually know and turn it into a tangible or physical thing. Simply put, find a way to put it on a CD, DVD, Youtube, pdf file, etc.

Put something into the hands of your friends, family members, and potential clients. That’s how you start positioning yourself as an authority on your subject. Create something of value. Give it away everywhere you go.

Hie my mentor, i received the book, you donated to me after the video ,may the supreme, divine, infinity spirity be with you inall your motivational endeavours. Iam profoundly delighted to eventually have found some one to guide me on how to establish my motivational career.

Some one once said` always remember that what you express in words takes shape in reality and becomes true, such is the power of the spoken words.

Confidece is that priceless quality which helps us to live our lives to the fullest, rather than as mere shadows of what we might be. sir i love you, i love the work you do i will meet you in person share a stage with you some where some how. Together with my motivational organisatoin i have also registered HIV and AIDS awareness progame. Just awiting my certificate.

I also propose to be part and parcel of your organisation.

I believe time is of essence, thats why it is one of the most important and yet perishable commodities God has given us , once it passes it cant be regained. Its gone forever.

If one spends thirty minutes watching tv he/she cant retrieve the same thirty minutes to do something else. Therefore, we must be very strategic in how we allocate our time. The same is is true for other resources such as money. We have to use money strategically.

Iam gonna do this for passion and money will follow. I love this job, i love motivating and and inspiring others and making them realise their dreams.

Iam one of those strange creatures that devours literature on motivational staff, i sniff it out, i collect it and i horde it, call me masochistic.

The first law of influance, make it rewarding and make it pleasurable for other people to interact with you, and you are just more than capable of doing that. Your divine magic is conatagious. CIAO.

Your first video for how to become a motivational speaker was an eye opener for me. So inspirational,so encouraging, so motivating, mr. you are really unique individual endowed with philanthropic qualities, why because very few people who are successful as you are are willing to share with others how they got to the top let alone willing to assist others who want to do the same work as they do.

Iam saying this from experience, iam a born motivational speaker, i have been speaking from a very tender age till todate, when ever i spoke people would accord me qualifications i did not have due to my english eloquence and fluence. I was born and bred in Zimbabwe and eventually migrated to SouthAfrica where i live with my family and working as an instructor/assessor, and also a qualified,tv,radio presenter, radio broadcaster.

Its here in SouthAfrica that i discovered one can earn a living as a motivational speaker.

I do motivate, encourage and inspire my trainees and always get positive feedback from them about how successful they became after my trainning sessions. I have tried to no avail to contact motivational speakers currently working so as to be mentored by them unsuccessfully. But that did not discourage me from wanting to speak for a living.

As an answer to my prayers i accidentally bumped into your website and i received your first video on how to become a mitivational speaker, i cant really wait. I profoundly believe that my purpose on this planet is to encourage and motivate individuals to become aware of the greater possibilities for their own lives and take action to persue them.

So encouraging people is what really excites me and where my natural gifts lie.

As i will be persuing my motivational goal, that is when i will only feel alive, envigorated and complete.

So mr Rene help me to live my dream and will also help others do the same. And i like to meet you in person as my mentor though my work is here in Africa. Thank you so much for coming to my rescue. God bless you abundantly.` What ever the mind of man can conceive and believe it can achieve.`

Pschologists have correctly said that when one is truly ready for a thing, it simply puts in its appearance.`Some one once said unless you do what you love, you never love what you do. One will never make a great success at some thing he/she hates doing. Cant wait for my next videos on how to kick start my motivational career. Ciao.

      Hi Chris,

How awesome!!! I can feel the fire in you. You are destined for the big stages. I can’t wait to share a stage with somewhere around the world. You are going to find some answers in the next videos you will receive. Keep watching. Keep commenting.

From all indications, I am not supposed to be making so much money doing what I am doing. Almost everyone in my surrounding didn’t think I could. They doubted when I believed. It pays to be persistent.

I am telling you, stay with it. Act as if it were impossible to fail. Knock on some doors. Knock some more. Knock again. The door of abundance will swing wide open for you to enter. Success is your birthright.

    Aloha!

You are truly an inspiration…I have never before considered myself a "speaking type of person"…Not born with the gift of gab. Sometimes the right words escape me..or they seem jumbled as they come from my mouth. Questions such as "How do you find the right words to say to move someone?" These questions all come to mind when I think of motivational speaking.

Recently, I have felt moved to touch lives in a deeper way. I have been a Polynesian dancer for many years and have always striven to touch the heart through song, lighting and movement. I love spirituality and I love to touch people's emotions to move them to feel something…

Motivational speaking intrigues me…and I wonder if I could do this…( I do know that all things are possible.) But it's seems that we humans need to hear it = Motivational speaker.

We all want a cheerleader. That is what you do!

So. Mahalo! thank you for the video…I look forward to deciding if this is what I am currently being called to do. Aloha! It is the breath of life…literally.

That is great Kainoa. You are already a motivational speaker. Song, lighting and movement definitely move people. I wish I knew how to sing, dance, etc.

I would absolutely find a way to incorporate them in my keynotes. However, you have to make a valid point with them. You have to use them as metaphors. Your audience have to relate with them.

The answer to your question is a resounding yes! You have what it takes to become a motivational speaker. It’s a matter of re-channeling or repositioning what you are already doing.

Many standup comedians and magicians switch to become motivational speakers. The main difference is, you make WAY more money as a motivational speaker.

Your story is truly moving and inspiring, I to do believe I have the gift of speaking and motivating others I do it all the time on the streets and to people I meet but it is kind of depressing sometimes to hear people say “your just a kid” when they ask me what/who am I and I proudly exclaim a “motivational speaker”. My dreams are big in Gods willing of course I’m 19 and I’m heading off to college but I would like to take Motivational Speaking with me every step of the way and go big with it.. Of course making money along the way.. Not that I’m asking you to help me or get me there because only God can truly assist me to get there and my hardwork but I would love to get more information form you as far as what can I do to calm my nerves while speaking to a group of people and how can I leave audience moving wanting to explore their talents and how do I get the opportunity to speak to groups of people. My email address is as listed above so is my Facebook page.. If possible may you please email me and we could talk one on one

    • Rene Godefroy

I am proud of you Francois. You are on to something! You are right, you don’t need me. God is your helper.

The best way to calm your nerves in front an audience is to keep speaking. The more you speak, the more comfortable you feel. When I first started I was REALLY nervous!

Guess what? The audience members are afraid of you, too. Try to stare at anyone and he or she will tend to look away.

Alright, if they are afraid of you, you should stand erect and confident to deliver your message. SPEAK. SPEAK. SPEAK. Soon your fear will vanish. Why? Because you confront it.

You are doing the right things. Most people are waiting until they can get their life in order to start. They will never start! I think fear is holding them back.

The main thing is to speak anywhere, anytime, and for any fee. In fact, speak for free any time to any size of audience. You just want platform hours. I talk about that in another video. Make sure you watch it.

    Hey Rene,

I always enjoy your videos and information. Five years ago I got the whisper to be a speaker. I had known I wanted to speak for a while, but never took is seriously. Finally I got the level of commitment I need to pursue a speaking career. I speak about having the right mindset. You mentioned in another video your 10-10 rule about writing a book. That is my next step to get more credibility by writing a book. Great suggestion by the way….

Keep up the videos, they are very enjoyable. I'm going to leave you with this. I finally got PIG level commitment to my speaking (I'll explain). Have you ever had bacon and eggs for breakfast? The chicken is involved with your breakfast….but.. the pig is FULLY commited. If you want success in speaking as well as life, we need PIG level commitment. Please keep up your message.

      Hi Mark,

Glad to know you are committed instead of being involved. Most people check out speaking and they walk away. You have to stay with it. The main problem is that too much information can be a problem.

If I threw all the ingredients in the world and asked you to cook me some homemade rosemary chicken Ravioli, you would spend a lot of time fumbling here and there trying to find out which particular ingredients that go into the ravioli.

However, If I gave you only the right ingredients and some instructions, you would have no problem cooking, right?

I said all of this because trying everything is not good. Decide on seven things you will do consistently to get your speaking career. Commit to doing them.

Setting your fees depends on many factors. It's based on whether you have a book, your past experiences, etc.

The best thing to do is to benchmark. Find speakers that are similar to you and find out how much they are charging. You can that information by visiting some speakers bureaus site.

You don't get paid for your knowledge. You get paid for your credibility. It's hard to tell how much to set your fees when I don't know much about your background or experiences. You can start from $1,500 to $5,000.
