Okay here’s a comment Thom Wert posted about my last post on You Don’t Need Any Special Education:
No special education nessary?? I agree, but let’s make sure people understand that education is necessarily to be successful. How can you speak on something that you know nothing about? You need to read and study about the subject your going to speak about. Mine you, education doesn’t have to be formal, it can be self taught! You don’t need to go to school (even though some of us get lessons from the school of hard knocks!) So my advice is to choose a subject that interest you, then it will not be a chore when preparing speeches.

Here’s a valuable speaking tip: Record every speech!
Yes, it doesn’t matter whether you are just starting out or you are a veteran public speaker record everything. That how you grow. That’s how you make progress. As a public speaker or I should say motivational speaker, you need to have a library of your speeches.
Now, you will get tired of hearing yourself. Or maybe I should point out that you won’t like hearing yourself. But that’s not my point. There’s a vital reason why I want you to record your speeches. Here it is: (more…)

Well, think before you leap and quit your job to become a motivational speaker. And I do mean think.
Although I didn’t have kids when I started, I still had to pay my bills and eat. I couldn’t quit my job cold turkey not knowing when and where the next paycheck would come from. You can call me coward or chicken if you want. But you are not going to call me stupid.
I never forgot this lady with a beaming smile on her face. She came to announce to me that she quit her job to pursue her speaking. I mean… She was so excited. She felt like it was the best decision (more…)

I often resist talking about money when it comes to speaking. I just don’t want to send the wrong signal. You see, if money is the only motivation that brings us to speaking, we are doomed to fail.
There’s no doubt that there is a lot of money to be made. I’m making a of of money as a motivational speaker. But my primary motive is to make an impact. (more…)
