I bought a new computer a few weeks ago AND SAVED $300!!! Many times I’ve heard my friends say what I’ve just said… I got such a good deal I saved “X” dollars. I’ve been so tempted to point out just how much they spent.
So did I Save $300 or Did I spend $500?
I’ve been in Business for a number of years, and what Rene has said is so true. One business that I worked for, almost went out of business because they didn’t control their expenses and that was a business who had been in business for 150 years!!
So remember everyone, as you make money save a little too. If the auto industry had done that years ago they won’t be in such a mess.

Take time to read the posts on this blog, you will find answers to your questions.

To become a motivational speaker you must first have a passion for the field. Don’t just jump in because of the money and glamor. Also, you must have something to say.

At first, you will not know what to talk about. But once you start, that which you are supposed to talk about will reveal itself to you. The key is to start. Stop thinking about it. Do something–anything–to get you going.

After all no one is going to take you serious if the idea is just in your head.

Georgina,

I am not sure what country you live in. My first recommendation is always Toastmasters, International if you are getting started.

Find out if there’s one in your area and join as soon as possible. I know a lot of advanced speakers who are still members of Toastmasters.

Your best bet is to join Toastmasters International right away. I am not sure where you live. But I know in America there are several local Toastmasters’ club in every city.

That was the first place I went to when I started. Believe it or not, all the big names in speaking started that way. They joined Toastmasters to polish their presentation skills.

Hi Thom,

It’s very easy to write a book without having a computer. Just hire a ghostwriter to write the book for you. Or you can record your book on a digital recorder and have someone transcribe, edit and format it for you.

Now, I don’t recommend a ghostwriter. It’s expensive to get a great one. People with a lot of money and no time tend to hire ghostwriters.

I would prefer it if you can write the book in your own voice. However, if you use the second suggestion, it’s fine. Draw an outline of your book on paper. Then start recording.

Having said that, nothing is more exciting than pounding on those keys on your keyboard. So, if you don’t have a computer, get one.

I want to pursue a career as a motivational speaker, but I am a bit confused and don’t know where and how to start. Are there any classes on story telling or speech classes you can consider to help gain the confidence to move an audience? How can you write a book without owning a computer? I have a computer and I’m sure everyone reading this has one, but you just got me wondering how it is possible to write a book without a computer?

I belong to a society or continent where indeed motivation is vital ( Nigeria)

1) Rene, i know that i have a gift for speaking as evidenced by the way i have been a motivation to many people who had challenges that overwhelmed. Kindly tell me how i can harness this gift of mine with a sense of direction and purpose to impact and benefit my world?

2) How do you pursue a career in Motivational Speaking? do you have to attend trainings, conferences, read books and things like that?
