What do I mean by authority? Well, it’s the art of using your stance to force people into compliance. Because you are the authority, people assume everything you say is true and they want to march on.

That’s cool! Isn’t it?

So, your job is to step on that stage with confidence, authority and a sense of “I belong here.” Say it with conviction. Challenge your audience. Rattle their cages. I don’t mean to insult your audience. I mean you need to challenge them to think differently.

In reality, if you show up timidly and being intimidated by some of the people in your audience, you’ll have a very tough time to connect with them and convincing them at the same time.

The magic of authority requires you to think on your own. Now, there’s nothing wrong with dropping a quote from an authority on your topic every now and then. But do it to support your point, or to disagree with the said authority.

My point is you got to own your topic. You have to sound like you are the expert or authority.

If you really think about it, there’s nothing new under the sun. There are really no new ideas.

Forgive me if I’m going against the grain of what you believe. Perhaps you are known as an idea person.

In fact, someone might even call you the idea man or the idea lady. Well, I have news for you. Your new ideas are not that new. They are new to you and to the person that has not heard them before.

Now don’t get me wrong. I certainly admire people who can turn a concept on its head to come up with fresh ideas. I even consider myself such a person. My mind is constantly racing.
